Estes' Surprise

A Small Grove of Trees

Sunday, Dan & I headed back to Estes Park to pick up our work from The Art Center as the Lines Into Shapes Show was closing at 1 PM. As we checked off our items for pick up, I told them I had a couple of miniatures to retrieve too. She unlocked the case and to my delight and surprise, my piece pictured above had sold. It's great to see that dot on the display card indicating a piece has sold during the exhibition. I don't know who purchased it and I would love to thank them. I hope they will enjoy it for years to come.

On the way back, glass artist Robin Grabowski of Glass Pony Designs had invited us to stop, visit with her, have some tea, and see her studio. What fun! Robin and I met through this land of blogs and met in person last month at The Boulder Arts and Crafts Gallery. I have been a fan of her work for quite some time now and it was such fun to meet her. She has a gorgeous and very sweet Irish Setter too, along with her horses and cats.

Dan & I enjoyed a peach bundt cake she had made that morning...it was still warm, yum. And I had my first taste of African tea that was very full bodied. She lives in a great location; very inspirational. Her home is so comfortable and filled with some of her works too. I love to see other artist's studio spaces. Hers works so well and we got to see one of her latest commissions...it was gorgeous. Thank you Robin!

I'd encourage you to visit her blog and check out her website too. If you ever get to Boulder, Colorado, stop at the Boulder Arts & Crafts Gallery to see her work and that of the other talented artists....you may even meet Robin and that would be great fun.

Here's wishing all of you a wonderful week of creativity! Aspire to be more as an artist and person.

Show Preparations

I'm taking a break from working on everything that will be delivered to the Botanic Gardens on Monday in preparation for Glass at the Gardens, Ancient Origins. Whew.

Last night I spoke with Maggie Heard, Membership VP for Glass Artist Fellowship, who has also taken on the massive responsibility of logging all the entries for the show, along with who knows what else. It's reassuring, in an odd way I realize, that she too is working on the finishing touches of things at the last minute, so to speak.

So while I work diligently today at the cleaning and polishing of everything for the show (Glass needs to sparkle ya know), I do take comfort knowing others are doing the same for this show. I shared this with my husband this morning and he had quite the laugh.

Tomorrow I'm off to D & L Stained Glass in Denver (my supplier of glass and tools), where I'm enrolled in one of their classes. This one is Faceted Dichroic Pendants and the instructor is Kent Lauer, a nationally known glass artist. Good stuff. I know how important it is to invest in yourself by taking classes and growing your personal talent. I figure I'll stop learning about earthly things when I die, not before! I love learning new things.

Reflections of a Glass Artist

When I first came up with a title for my blog, all that came to mind was Kathleen's Glass Thoughts. I figured that I needed to have something related to glass and what I do as glass artist. It wasn't my ideal blog title, but it was all I could come up with at the time.

Since then, it's been on my mind, and today it finally hit me....Reflections of a Glass Artist. Now I like that play on words, so my new blog title will be just that.

I've been firing my kiln every day this week. New ideas are flowing and I'm so excited about the finished pieces. I'll be posting pictures. The first of my Gem Tone Series turned out very nice. It's a sapphire colored vase with a top that looks almost quilted. A great effect in the glass. Hope to post the picture in the next day or two.

Those are my morning reflections for the day...................
