I thought I would share some of the photos from the opening reception on Friday night at the Palmer Lake Artist Group's Fine Art Show at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts.

As I have mentioned, I do like this venue. The turn out for the opening receptions continues to be good.

The Krucoff Clan fared well as each of us won ribbons for our works. Dan won first place in the Photography category.

And I also had the good fortune of receiving 3rd place for one of my glass bowls, Summer Days.

Suzanne Jenne, a gifted artist, was the MC for the silent auction. I'm happy that I won one of the items in the auction. The proceeds from the auction go toward the scholarship fund to help art students from the area go on to pursue their studies in college.

Another in my Sky-Scape Series, I was thinking of colorful spring time skies as I worked on this piece. It was very difficult for Dan to photograph because I had more darker colored glass in this piece and trying to get the light to shine through with the highly reflective glass surface made it almost impossible to photograph. I had 1' square mirrors that I use in shows for my pieces when the lighting is low, so we thought that would help. I think it did some and it does give you the opportunity to see the underside of this bowl. This one truly is a bowl that you need to see in person and hold it so the sunlight shines through so you can see the colorful glasses I used.

All of the glass that I used for this piece are my favorite Bullseye sheets. I combined opals and transparents for this one. The crackling you see on the surface was created by the use of crystal clear frit in the chunky size. It's one of my thicker bowls, approximately 1/2" thick, so it is quite heavy. I do like how stout some of these bowls are, but I have started to tone down the thickness to 3/8" on others I'm currently working on. I thought it would be good to have a variety of thicknesses and then see what the public likes.

Currently it is on display at the Palmer Lake Art Group Fine Art Show at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake, Colorado. The opening reception for this event will be this coming Friday, June 11th, from 5 - 8 PM. There will be refreshments and an open bar, along with live music. Generally there is a good turn out for this reception and Dan & I enjoy it a great deal.

Next month will be the annual Palmer Lake Artists Group Spring Show. It will be held at the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake, Colorado. Many of you know this is one of my favorite local venues for art shows. The turn out is good and the opening reception has live music.

This is one of my entries in the show. Crinklized dichroic pieces that I've wire wrapped in Argentium Silver. As I looked at the matching earrings and pendant, all I could think of was glamourous....so I decided to name these Glam.

I have a couple of fused glass bowls that will be in the show too and I will post pictures of those later.

In the meantime, if you are looking for a nice diversion, the opening reception for this show will be Friday, June 11 from 5 - 8 PM at the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake, Colorado.

Artists' People's Choice Award

People's Choice Glass Artist for 2010

This Award arrived in today's mail. I think I'm still in a bit of shock. At the opening reception for Glass Magic, this past Saturday, ballots were handed out. I never dreamed in a million years that out of all the wonderful glass artists represented at this exhibition, I would be chosen as the People's Choice! Wow, what a way to start 2010.

I'm honored and humbled by this. And I am grateful to those who voted for me...my work. Thank you.

My first Reflections of a Glass Artist post in 2010, the new year, the new decade! Hi everyone and Happy New Year. I look forward to this year and decade being filled with new events, discoveries, and of course, new learning experiences.

I'm happy to announce that the three pieces pictured above are part of the Glass Magic Exhibition that opened Tuesday, January 5, 2010 and will run through Saturday, January 23, 2010. The venue for this exhibition is the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts and I have had my work there for a number of shows over the past few years. I really like the venue and they have quite a loyal following of locals and those from the surrounding areas.

The opening reception will be this Saturday. The Krucoffs will be in attendance; Dan, Mary & yours truly. It should be a fun evening and if you are in the area, please stop by and say "Hi"! I would love to meet you.

One of the reasons I'm so excited about this first show is it is all glass. The Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts wants to increase public awareness and appreciation of all the beautiful aspects of glass art. While this isn't a juried show, I find it wonderful that there are so many local glass enthusiasts and this show provides an opportunity for glass artists at all levels to display their works. I'm looking forward to posting some pictures of the opening reception here with an update of how the evening's festivities went.

First Place with Puzzle!

Last night's opening reception for the Palmer Lake Art Group's Fine Art Show held many wonderful surprises for the Krucoff family. My work Puzzle, received a blue ribbon in the Fiber Arts, Jewelry and Glass. Wow. And my Messier Galaxy also received a third place ribbon in that category too.

My husband Dan won second and third place ribbons in the Photography category. Yay Dan!!! I told him that I thought his entries were some of his best works ever.

And my dear mother-in-law Mary, received an Honorable Mention in Watercolor. She is such a wonderful supporter of Dan & I in our respective works. And I will always be grateful to her for raising such as wonderful man as Dan.

We definitely enjoyed a Krucoff Trifecta last night and I have published more photos on my Facebook artist page if you would like to see some of last night's festivities.

I'm happy to report that some of the artist's work sold. In particular, Ellen Buskirk is a fellow glass artist and she created Aspen paintings using glass frit. Not only did one of her Aspen works sell, but also another of her works, a crackled fused bowl in cobalt blue sold. I love the technique and Ellen's work is excellent.

The silent auction did well too and my piece, Dazzling Purple Morn, raised $55 for the Art Scholarship fund.

Opening Reception Tonight

I thought I would share the evite to Palmer Lake Art Group, Spring Fine Art Show. The opening reception is tonight. The location is the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts. I think as a local art group, we have been very fortunate to have a great turn out for the opening reception. There are so many wonderful artists that participate in this show and since I have been involved with the group I have had the privilege to witness the growth of the show, the artists, and the audiences who attend this opening night event. I welcome anyone who is close by to come and enjoy this show.

I'm also one of the artists donating an item for their silent auction. The proceeds go to their artist scholarship fund; there usually are 2 - 3 talented high school artists that receive a scholarship from the Palmer Lake Art Group for their journey to college. This is the pendant I'm donating, called Dazzling Violet Morn.

Puzzle Pieces

More beautiful crinklized dichroic from Coatings by Sandburg (CBS). This pendant and earring set is my last entry in the Palmer Lake Art Group Fine Art Show that starts on June 2nd with its opening reception on Saturday, June 6th at the Tri-Lake Center for the Arts.

The glass pattern was called Puzzle, so I felt that was an appropriate title for this set.





I used square Argentium silver wire to wrap these, along with a few Swarovski crystals for the earrings.

On Thursday of this past week, I had a fun little trip up to D & L Art Glass and was able to hand pick some more of the CBS patterned dichroic. A new batch of fused cabs is cooling in the kiln as I write this. I can't wait to see how these new patterns turned out. I will be wire wrapping and posting new pictures soon.

Messier 83 - Spiral Galaxy

This is the start of a new bowl. It just came out of the kiln today and I'm really happy with the result so far. Another thick piece, this is about 1/2" deep and almost 14" in diameter. I need to clean the edge before I start the coldworking process.

The inspiration for the design was born from a Hubble photograph of a Spiral Galaxy called Messier 83. The color scheme is my choice and I wanted that spiral effect. I used more frit this time and my biggest concern was getting the fiber dam to hold as this fused. As a result I used a TON of straight pins and unfortunately some of the tips became embedded in the edge. This isn't really a problem as I will clean up the circle shape with my trusty Taurus 3 ring saw and that will eliminate any residual pins.

The next time I photograph this will be after it's slumped in the bowl. I will be entering this in the Palmer Lake Art Group's June show at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts. Looking forward to it.
