Full Bloom ~ Flower Garden Series

Full Bloom
Flower Garden Series

This is a serious floral scene, everything is in full bloom. As I worked on this piece, I wanted something visually dramatic.  There have been fields of wildflowers that have left a lasting impression on me.  When their blooms are at their peak, the powerful colors are overwhelming.  I tried to convey that in this piece.

It is currently on display and to the best of my knowledge, still available for purchase, at Boulder Arts & Crafts in Boulder, Colorado.  The exhibit at Boulder runs through September 5th, so if you are in the area and have a chance, I hope you can stop by and see some of my works.  They have other beautiful artwork available too and Boulder is always a fun place to visit.

Until next time, aspire to be more as an artist and a person.

The Opening Reception

This in the entrance for the Cottonwood Center. It is a really nice venue.

Once again our weather challenged and snow was the prelude for the show. Fortunately, it was just cold and light snow, so that didn't deter folks from coming to the opening reception. There was a steady stream of people to view the work of the Glass Artists of the Pikes Peak Region (GAPPR), along with other glass artists in the area. I think there is some great talent in GAPPR and that definitely showed.

I'll let the pictures I took speak for themselves, although I will add a few comments here and there.

The center stained glass window of an elk with mountains in the background was my favorite piece of the evening. I had a chance to talk with the artist who did this piece and her work is lovely. She has a definite style with mountains and I think it is great.

I have two of my bowls in the show. Here's a shot of Winter on its pedestal directly below the stained glass window. My bowl, Autumn, was there too, but I neglected to get a shot of it.

I was really intrigued by this piece. The artist did a lovely scene of aspens in a fused work and then 'framed' it in aspen branches. It was a great piece in my opinion and won 3rd place, although if I had been the judge I would have given it first place in the fused glass category.

What's that? There appears to be a blue ribbon here.....

Yes, that is my wire wrapped glass jewelry and one of my earrings, Whisper, won first place in the jewelry category. A very pleasant surprise. And I had several opportunities to observe people intensely looking at my wire wraps. It was fun to be that 'fly on the wall' as people seemed to be captivated by them. I'm still not comfortable approaching people in those settings to see if they had questions. I guess I need to work on that.

These are only a few of the pictures I took. If you would like to see more, here is the link to the album I created on Facebook.

It was a nice evening, good to see so many people out and about. The show runs through May 21st and if you are in the area, I think it is worth seeing.

Until next time, aspire to be more as an artist and a person.

Parker Artists Guild’s 6th Annual Spring Art Show

The is the first year that Dan & I will be participating in the Parker Artists Guild Spring Art Show. We have heard lots of good things about this show. It takes place next month in Parker, Colorado, which is fairly close to us. Dan will have some of his photographs for sale, and I will have my glass work.

It is an indoor show, which will be good for us if the weather isn't kind that weekend. Let's hope we'll have some spring time weather, unlike the weather we've have over the past 24 hours! Whew, spring in the Rockies is not for the feint of heart!

If you are in the area the weekend of April 17 - 18, please stop by and say Hi.

Glass Magic Exhibition
304 Highway 105
Palmer Lake, CO

Opening Reception: Saturday, January 9, 2010, 5:00 - 7:30 PM

My first Reflections of a Glass Artist post in 2010, the new year, the new decade! Hi everyone and Happy New Year. I look forward to this year and decade being filled with new events, discoveries, and of course, new learning experiences.

I'm happy to announce that the three pieces pictured above are part of the Glass Magic Exhibition that opened Tuesday, January 5, 2010 and will run through Saturday, January 23, 2010. The venue for this exhibition is the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts and I have had my work there for a number of shows over the past few years. I really like the venue and they have quite a loyal following of locals and those from the surrounding areas.

The opening reception will be this Saturday. The Krucoffs will be in attendance; Dan, Mary & yours truly. It should be a fun evening and if you are in the area, please stop by and say "Hi"! I would love to meet you.

One of the reasons I'm so excited about this first show is it is all glass. The Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts wants to increase public awareness and appreciation of all the beautiful aspects of glass art. While this isn't a juried show, I find it wonderful that there are so many local glass enthusiasts and this show provides an opportunity for glass artists at all levels to display their works. I'm looking forward to posting some pictures of the opening reception here with an update of how the evening's festivities went.

Until next time, aspire to be more as an artist and a person....you know I am!

Glass at the Gardens - Opening Reception

What a great evening!

Dan & I got there early and had a chance to walk around looking at all the beautiful art glass. Incredible. When we got to the display case where my jewelry was, to my surprise and delight, the Floral Talisman (pictured in this post) had sold! What a way to start the evening. This is the first time any of my work has sold at the Glass Artists Fellowship.... Glass at the Gardens Show.

The next pleasant surprise was seeing Riva Sweetrocket. Riva is a friend and very talented contemporary pastel artist in Denver, represented by Plus+Gallery. Riva has wanted to see my work and Dan & I had a chance to walk around the show pointing out my pieces. She plans on bringing her husband, Rohan, to see the exhibit this weekend. How cool. And she wants to see more of my work, so the next time she & Rohan are in the Springs, they will stop by the house.

Then Kent Lauer arrived after a day of teaching his Dichroic Sculpture class at D and L. I was able to show Kent my entries in the show and I am very flattered by his kind words and opinion of what I had done. Thanks for your encouragement Kent!

I also had a chance to visit with some of the folks from D & L Stained Glass Supply. They had their display on this history of glass at the show. Really interesting.

It was a great evening. Dan & I had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the air conditioning must have been off as it was rather toasty. However, that didn't dampen the creative atmosphere in the room. It has been a wonderful week for me. Now I have all these new ideas swirling in my head for my next projects. Can't wait to start them.....
