The Results!

Thankfully, it was one of those wonderful surprise moments when I was able to open the kiln and see the results from yesterday's experiment. Not exactly as I envisioned it, but that's good as it gives me something to work on. The firing schedule I used was actually for a tack fuse, but this came pretty close to a full fuse, so I will have to experiment some more.

And now I need to work on the edge a little as there are some sharp points that must be addressed. Over all, I like the outcome and think it's a fun piece. I don't have any idea what I'm going to name this....I will figure something out.

Wanted to share a close up of the edge. Some of the glass globs are still visible, but I'd like them to be more pronounced so I will back off on the heat some the next time I try this and see what result that produces.

May each of you have a week of creative delights!

I realy like how that came out. I like the edge on it a lot, it looks like confetti

Oh, very cool! I see what you mean about the sharp edges, but I think you're on to something here!

Thanks Sophie! Yes it does remind me of confetti.

Hi Elizabeth. Thank you. It has given me a bunch of ideas and I plan on more experiments in this vein.

I will post a picture as I complete the edge clean up too.

What fun texture - the top edges look like taffy being pulled apart.

Thanks Beverly. I would love to watch this process as it occurs in the kiln...just too hot and I really don't like opening the kiln much at that top temperature...even though I could.

This looks great Kathleen and your blog site is so interesting. Thank you too for your continuing support and putting the photo of my art on your page.
Have you ever seen the video "Chihuly in the Hotshop"? I think you would really enjoy it. You can find it on Amazon.

Hi Susanne! Thank you so much and it's my pleasure to include your work/blog as one of the ones I follow...I need to add more as there are so many fascinating artists like yourself blogging about their work.

I have 4 of Chihuly's DVDs in my library...that may be one of them, I'll have to check. I'm a great fan of his work and have been able to see it on exhibit here in the Springs and also in Las Vegas. He's a master of glass.

Thanks again. :D

Wow Kathleen this is beautiful! The 'fringed' edges were inspired.

Thanks so much Deborah!

ooohhh. this is cool. looks like taffy to me.

Kathleen Krucoff said...

Yeah Tracey, now that you mention it, I can see taffy too. Glass certainly creates lots of different shapes! Thanks.

I love the results...I was waiting to see! Organic, geometric, soft and round and linear...all at the same time. So beautiful!!

Oh, thank you Karen. I'm glad you like it. As Elizabeth Seaver commented earlier, I think I may be on to something. Anxious to do more in this line! :)
